Objective: To present a new concept of intraocular lens in practice of combined surgery.
Methods: The lens Acri.Lyc. 59 RET is developed to produce similar refractive effect in eyes filled both with fluid and silicone oil. The lens was used in different indications for combined surgery. Both types of the same lens are presented. After usual phacoemulsification IOL was implanted into the bag, posterior capsule was excised with vitreous cutter and optics of the lens was positioned behind the posterior capsule while haptics were still present in the bag. 20 g vitrectomy was performed in usual way.
Results: Presented method allows safe IOL implantation in different cases. Visualisation of fundus was good for removal of macular pucker and ILM and diabetic membranes. Also peripheral vitrectomy and laser could be performed. Comparison of refractive error in eyes filled with silicone and fluid was similar.
Conclusions: Preliminary experience show that Acri.Lyc 59 RET may be useful tool for combined surgery.
