Comorbidity of retinal occlusion

Objective: Analysis of patients presenting retinal occlusions. Patients analysed regarding, age, localisation, type of occlusion, cardiovascular risk factors, thrombokinetics, other illnesses.
Methods: In a one year study 84 patients were found respectively to have a retinal occlusion.
Results: In most cases an elevated blood pressure and an anormal echocardiogram were seen. In half the cases a pathologic cardiovascular evaluation was included by an electrocardiogram. Constriction of the carotid vessels was shown by carotid Doppler studies. In the fluorescein angiogram was seen a macular edema or a lack of perfusion. lab tests: hypercholesterol, hyperlipoproteinemia, diabetis mellitus, elevated hematocrit, plasminogen antigen inhibitor and erythrocyte sedimentation rate, homocysteinemia, factor V Leiden.
Conclusions: The analysis confirms known ethiologies as elevated blood pressure, hypercholesterol, hyperlipoproteinemia, diabetis mellitus, arteriosclerosis, valvular disease, coagulopathy, homocysteinemia, factor V Leiden.
