Trabeculectomy with Mitomycin C and Ollogen

Kohlhaas M.
Department of ophthalmology, St. Johannes Hospital, Dortmund

Objective: In a prospective study a trabeculectomy was performed with mitomycin C and Ollogen, a biodegradable collagen glycosaminoglycan, to reduce the risk of conjunctival scarring.
Methods: 45 patients, 45 pseudophacic eyes, 73.69±7.8 years, were operated. Controls were done at all eyes up to 6 months. Before TE 0.32±0.76 (0-3) anti glaucoma operations were performed, number of eyedrops were 2.87±0.54 (0-4), excavation was 0.93±0.17 (0.3-1) and the eyepressure was 25.43±8.98 (15-53).mmHg.
Results: 6 months postoperativly 37 eyes (82%) were uo to 15 mmHg compensated without therapy. At 8 patients (18%) 3x a suturelysis and 5x a revision of the bleb with MMC were performed. 2 (5%) patients use IOP medication. All patients had an IOP between 11.4±3.47 (8-19) mmHg and were compensated 6 months after.
Conclusions: Mitomycin C and an Ollogen-Implant is an useful alternative to lower the risk of conjunctival scarring
