Abstract

DO.14.06

Correction of astigmatism with a astigmatism neutral coaxial microincision technique and implantation of a Bitoric IOL

Breyer D. R. H.
Augenheilkunde an den Schadow Arkaden, Düsseldorf

Objective: Preexisting corneal astigmatism in lens surgery is corrected with toric IOL.A comparison of different toric IOLs and the evolution of lens and implantation techniques will be demonstrated.
Methods: Video demonstration of implantation techniques and properties of three different custom made IOLs have been documented during routine surgical procedures.
Results: The Humanoptic toric IOL cannot be implanted through a microincision that is astigmatism neutral. The Rayner and even better the Acri.Tec IOL can be implanted through astigmatism neutral microincisions smaller than 2.2 mm and 1.8mm respectively. The Acri.Tec bitoric optic allows a correction of extremely high dioptres and offers a bigger optical zone.
Conclusions: Modern toric IOL should be individually designed based on the single patients needs, be suitable for Microincision Cataract Surgery (MICS) and should have a optimized optical system.
