Subthreshold micropulse diode laser cyclophotocoagulation for high intraocular pressure

Augenabteilung, Schlosspark-Klinik, Berlin

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of subthreshold micropulse diode laser cyclophotocoagulation (MP-CPC) for high intraocular pressure (IOP).
Methods: Clinical trial. Fourty patients (40 eyes) were randomized either to 1,5 mW or to 2,0 mW. Complete ophthalmic examinations, including determination of visual acuity, IOP measurement at the time of the study entry and at 3-month intervals.
Results: Visual acuity remained stable. The IOP decreased with 1,5 mW to 3,1 mmHg (mean) and with 2 mW to 2,3 mmHg (mean). No side effects observed.
Conclusions: The MP-CPC showed a small pressure-lowering effect with both parameters. A longer follow-up time as well as further studies are necessary to work out the optimal parameters for a good pressure lowering effect.
